the day we met

I submitted this for the PW Beauty Photo assignment with the following caption:

My husband took this picture.  We had just returned to our hotel 

after taking custody of our children at the orphanage in Addis Ababa that morning.  

It was the best and worst moment of my life.  

Worst because of the sadness that overwhelmed me that they couldn't be with their first mother, 
and best because by some crazy stroke of blessing 
I would get to be their second and forever mother.  

I was in awe at how beautiful and precious a treasure had been given to me.  

I am still in awe, four years later.
